about

Planned Obsolescence. Creating with the intent of falling apart. Six pieces by Mathieu Lamontagne reflecting on our need to consume, and environmental irresponsibility. Deep ambience surrounded by electronic textures and artefacts popping up amidst a peaceful reprieve. Polar Seas is happy to present this new work by Mathieu, who has also issued several recordings on Unknown Tone, Twice Removed, and Audio Gourmet, and who also records under the alias arbee.

"Warm, delicate and plaintive sound colors guide the listener in a vast sea of broken memories and faded reveries of a post-industrial continent. The sound architecture includes many tiny detail and micro noises poetically combined, embracing an emotional vibe and provides an imaginative dialogue between processed musique concrète and morosely nostalgic ambient reveries." - Igloo Mag

"Listening to Obsolescence Programmée, one hears ghosts in the machine...An ambient mist spreads slowly over the recording, lugubrious and perfumed, reflecting a state of physical satiation combined with a nagging spiritual dissatisfaction." - A Closer Listen
