anthéne (Brad Deschamps) and IKSRE (Phoebe Dubar) met after collaborating on two tracks for Ambientologist in 2022. Their musical chemistry was instant and they decided to continue the project, swapping ideas between Toronto, Canada and Melbourne, Australia. A common thread that is woven throughout the album was the idea of being on the precipice of the season shifting in their respective location - from winter to spring in Phoebe's case and from summer to autumn for Brad. Alongside the climate shifts they were experiencing, Phoebe was also experiencing shifts in her family life, as she stepped into the role of co-carer for her mother, who was diagnosed with cancer at the outset of the project. The album provided her with an artistic outlet for her struggles, culminating in the song "remission" which she wrote the vocals for (to Brad's initial instrumental), on the morning that she was given the good news that her mum's cancer was in remission. The shift brought about the start of school for Brad’s daughter, the return to work and an attempt by so many to return to normalcy after 2 and a half years, though with a pandemic still very much present in our daily lives.
